The Korean Cultural Center in Hungary said it held a Korean food and culture event Monday evening in partnership with SPAR, one of the country’s major supermarket chains.

The center said the event began at 6 p.m. at its venue in Budapest. It was organized to coincide with SPAR’s special sales period for Korean food products and aimed to introduce Hungarian consumers to Korean food culture and traditions in more depth.

All 16 participants, who had signed up in advance, attended, the center said. They cooked and sampled Korean dishes, tried on hanbok, the traditional Korean clothing, and viewed an exhibition at the center.

The center said participants expressed high satisfaction with the chance to cook Korean food themselves and to experience traditional clothing and art in one place.

“I am very pleased that through this successful collaboration with SPAR, a leading retailer in Hungary, we were able to introduce Korean ingredients and culture to local citizens together,” center director Yoo Hye-ryeong said in the announcement, which was posted Tuesday.

Yoo said the center plans to continue working with local companies and institutions to promote Korean culture and expand exchanges between the two countries.

SPAR Hungary is part of the Austrian-led SPAR group. It operated 647 stores in 2025, according to SPAR International. Many of its stores are run by independent retailers under the SPAR brand.

The cultural center operates under South Korea’s Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
